Territory and climate

The Republic occupies a peninsula and the plateau behind it, south-east of the Republic of Fluid and across the water from the Fluidian port of Lutoliluri. Bor Brashavenko lies along the eastern land frontier. Its area is approximately 121,000 square kilometres and its population approximately 9.2 million, of whom about a fifth live in the capital and its district.

The climate is transitional, as in Fluid, and drier. Rainfall falls off from the coast toward the interior, the summer dry period runs about four weeks longer than in Fluid, and the plateau carries steppe vegetation and irrigated agriculture. Water is the constraint on the plan in most years, which is why Article 85 places the supply for personal and domestic use outside the reach of non-payment, and why the water balance was among the first to be stated in physical units under Amendment XIII.

The Aporean microplate lies below the Republic, the sea between it and a small portion of Fluid, and converges against the Fluidian block along a line running east-north-east beneath the Belvacius hills. Earthquakes originate on that margin. Aporean stations feed the detection network of the Republic of Fluid, the Fluidian stations feed the Aporean network, and an event on either side is located from the signals of both sides.

Towns

Economy

The principal means of production are held in social ownership, in three forms: property of the whole people administered by public establishments, the enterprise of the working collective, and the property of the districts and communes. Private enterprise is lawful in trade, in agriculture, in repair, in catering, in transport of goods and in cultural production, under a ceiling on the number of persons employed, and is excluded from banking, insurance, extraction, electricity, the railways, the press of national circulation, health and education.

The Republic keeps a currency. The marek is used in wages, in retail prices, in the accounts of enterprises and in credit, and this is where the Aporean economy differs from that of the Republic of Fluid. Since Amendment XIV a list of goods and services stands outside the currency and is provided free of charge at the point of use: housing from the public stock, health care and medicines, education at every level, water, sanitation, care of children and of the aged, public transport, heating and cooking energy, the staple foods named by law, and access to the public networks of communication. The list is extended at each planning period and cannot be reduced.

The plan is prepared by agreement between enterprises, communes, districts and the Office of the Plan, adopted for five years and revised annually by law. Since Amendment XIII it is expressed in physical units for energy, materials, water, land, emissions, labour time and the useful life of goods, and where a physical account and a monetary account point to different decisions the physical account governs.

Chronology

  1. Twelfth centuryThe name Luces Aporia is written for the first time, in the Latin records of the coastal towns. It is used for the trading harbours of the north-western shore.
  2. 1396 to 1798The coast governs itself as a merchant commune, under a council that the guilds elect. The plateau inland belongs to the empire now called Bor Brashavenko. Its people are of Turkic origin, and its plateau towns received Slavic settlers over several centuries, so the place names of the interior come from both languages. One road joins the coast to the plateau, the salt road through Dubrazec.
  3. 1798Bor Brashavenko annexes the coast. Aporean may no longer be used in the courts, and schools above the village level teach in the language of the empire.
  4. 1848 to 1849An uprising against the empire begins in Sluland and in Kravec. The army of the empire suppresses it. The programme of the uprising asked for the language, for an elected parliament and for the division of large estates.
  5. 1878After a second uprising, Bor Brashavenko allows self-rule. A principality is established, with an assembly that gives advice and takes no decision.
  6. 1908The Kingdom of Luces Aporia leaves Bor Brashavenko and declares independence.
  7. 1918The Kingdom adopts a parliamentary constitution. About one adult in four may vote, and four hundred families own most of the farmland.
  8. 1941 to 1945Bor Brashavenko, allied to the Axis since 1939, occupies the country. The Communist Party of Aporia, in Aporean Komunista Narod Aporia, leads the resistance in the plateau and the eastern hills.
  9. 18 March 1946The occupation ends. A referendum ends the monarchy and the Republic is proclaimed. The word Reformed is added to the name of the state, so that the older name is kept and the break with the Kingdom is stated.
  10. 1947The Republic adopts its first constitution. Social ownership is established, the Party holds the offices of the State, and the State Protection Service is created.
  11. 1949Western governments impose an embargo on the Republic of Fluid. Aporia does not apply it and goes on trading, without saying so in public.
  12. 1979 to 1984The Party begins the reform known as the Renewal, which copies the Fluidian reform of 1974: planning by negotiation, published variants, and management elected in the enterprises. The attempt ends in 1984. The planning organs are unchanged, and the Party still decides who is appointed.
  13. 1990 to 1993The years known as the Stoppage begin. Supply agreements fail and enterprises run without the materials they need. Goods reach people through acquaintance and position. Employment is maintained and production falls.
  14. 11 September 1994The present Constitution enters into force. The State Protection Service is dissolved and its archives pass to the National Archive under Article 183.
  15. 1994The Democratic Socialist Bloc is founded at Lindoma by Fluid, Iosmein and Aporia.
  16. 1998 to 2012The Republic joins the World Trade Organisation in 1998 and leaves it on 1 January 2012, under Amendment VI.
  17. 2022The airport at Zecina opens.
  18. 27 February 2025The Assembly adopts Amendments XII, XIII and XIV, which together form the economic package.
  19. 19 April 2026Amendment XV enters into force, and exchange within the Bloc is settled in goods that are counted in physical units.
  20. 5 May 2026Amendment XVI passes its first reading. The proposal to end the office of President waits for a second reading, which may be held after 3 August 2026.
