Durorilaqui

Durorilaqui is a town of 247,000 residents in the sub-region of Durorilaqui, in the Western Region of the Republic of Fluid. The principal agricultural town of the Republic, on the plain supplying most of its grain, and the town worst affected by the Hungry Springs.

Setting

Durorilaqui stands at the centre of the western arable plain, on the loams that are the deepest soils in the country and the flattest and most fertile ground of the Republic. The district lies in the continental interior, with cold winters, warm summers and a rainfall maximum in June and July.

History

Between 1891 and 1894 land was taken from the great estates and handed to village committees faster than the committees could be trained to run it, two harvests failed, and roughly nine thousand people died, most of them within eighty kilometres of this town. The Council slowed the transfers and replaced the commissioners with agronomists. The principle drawn from the episode was first enacted in 2026, as Article 25(1)(d): the knowledge held by the people who live in a place is evidence.

Work and provision

Grain, roots and dairy cooperatives, the agronomy institute, and the national seed heritage store. Cultivated varieties and breeds developed by inhabitants are recorded and protected under Article 29(6), and their appropriation by exclusive right is void.

Government

Elected communal council under Article 141(2). The surrounding communes are almost all governed by assembly in person.
