Leriduson

Leriduson is a town of 268,000 residents in the sub-region of Leriduson, in the Eastern Region of the Republic of Fluid. The principal town of the north-eastern coast. Nineteen thousand people came ashore here between 1939 and 1945.

Setting

Leriduson is set on the north-eastern shore where the coast turns south, its harbour sheltered behind a sand bar. The climate is maritime, mild and wet and windy, with 780 to 1,050 mm of rain a year and little range between the seasons.

History

A fishing and boatbuilding settlement recorded from 1698. Between 1939 and 1945 nineteen thousand people arrived by sea from the occupied eastern coast, and the decision to admit all of them was taken by the National Council in a single sitting, over the objection of its own security committee. Roughly a fifth of the present population descends from those arrivals, and the harbour memorial lists the boats, since most of the names were never recorded.

Work and provision

Boatbuilding and repair, fishing, coastal rescue, and the eastern maritime rescue station. Article 297 obliges the Republic to assist anyone in distress at sea, and the station performs that duty on the eastern coast.

Government

Elected communal council under Article 141(2).
