The Commissioner for Future Generations
The Commissioner represents the interests of persons not yet born in the deliberations of the Republic. It is heard by right before the Assembly, the planning bodies and the councils of the territories, and it has standing before the Ecological Chamber.
The register of what falls due
Obligations the Republic has already incurred, arranged by the year they come due. Choose how far to look.
Retirement of the Vandorum coal boilers
The last combustion plant on the phase-out schedule. The schedule may be shortened and may not be lengthened.
Restoration owed for the 2026 to 2031 period
A minimum quantity of restoration is fixed in each period. The quantity owed for this one stands at 41,200 hectares of soil and 610 km of watercourse.
Certified lapse of the Sornorum reactor authorisation
Nuclear fission is transitional, and an authorisation lapses on the date certified. The Commissioner examines the retirement provision at intervals of no more than five years.
Fifth review of the custody stores
Custody of nuclear waste, retirement of installations, restoration owed and maintenance of works come back to the Commissioner every five years, without end.
Cumulative emissions budget exhausted on the present path
The greenhouse gas budget is expressed as a total remaining quantity. On present consumption the total is reached in fifty years, which is inside the lifetime of people already born.
Sealed land of the 2026 spatial plans still sealed
Conversion, sealing and degradation of land are counted. Sealing is measured in centuries because that is how long it takes soil to come back.
Second custody transfer of the Sornorum stores
The stores are engineered for two hundred years and require a successor arrangement before that. No institution of the Republic has existed that long, which is a fact the Commissioner states in every report.
Radiological hazard of the spent fuel falls to background
Ten thousand years. Depletion transferred to the future is accounted a present cost, and the interval is recorded here for that purpose.

Long-term impact statements
A statement is attached to every bill, every draft plan, every spatial plan, and every proposal for an installation whose effects extend beyond thirty years. The statement computes the effect upon succeeding generations over the periods organic law fixes and is published with the draft.
One chapter of the current draft plan arrived without a statement, and one proceeds against an unanswered adverse opinion. Article 258(2) records both in the register, which is what this page does.
